The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Turin, housed in the 17thcentury building in the Palazzo dell'Accademia delle Scienze, is the most important Egyptian museum in the world outside Cairo, Egypt. There are about 6,500 exhibited antiquities including statues, sarcophagi and funerary objects, mummies, papyrus, amulets, and jewels. During you visit to Turin, the capital city of the Piedmont region, you can't miss a walk in the “Parco del Valentino”, the lungs of the city. Turin is famous for its many beautiful squares overlooked by monuments, attractions, and historic buildings. One of the most beautiful is Piazza San Carlo, nicknamed "the Salotto di Torino". The palace of Venaria Reale was one of the residences of the Savoy royals and is a UNESCO site (registered in the World Heritage List in 1997). The Palace was designed by the architect Amedeo di Castellamonte and commissioned by Duke Carlo Emanuele II, who intended to use it as a base for hunting parties in the Turin hills. The name of the Palace, in Latin,Venatio Regia, derives from the term “venatoria”, which means hunting. The Venaria Reale Palace was part of an actual village joined by many houses and palaces for workers, and ordinary citizens, who wanted to live near the palace. Venaria Reale later became an independent municipality of the Turin province. The choice of the site, at the foot of the Lanzo Valleys, was favored by the proximity to the extensive forests of the Gran Paese, rich in game – a territory that extends for a hundred kilometers to the Alpine mountains.In 2017, ten years after the inauguration of the tourist site, the Michelin Guide assigned to the palace of Venaria the coveted 3 star rating. In 2018, Venaria Reale registered more than one million visitors, making it the seventh most visited Italian museum site. In 2019, the gardens of the Reggia were elected the most beautiful public park in Italy.
The Reggia di Venaria is about 6 miles from the city of Turin. You can easily reach it by car, train, bus, taxi or bike.
There is a dedicated GTT Venaria Express Line Shuttle service that connects the center of Turin and the Porta Susa train station to the Reggia di Venaria(and the Parco dellaMandria). The shuttle costs € 1.70 per ride on weekdays and €7 for an entire day on Saturdays and Sundays.
